Um misterioso evento global faz com que todos ao redor do mundo desmaiem simultaneamente por 2 minutos e 17 segundos e muitos têm uma visão de suas vidas seis meses no futuro a partir daquele momento. Quando todos acordam ficam surpresos com o que aconteceu.
Um agente do FBI que reside em Los Angeles, Mark Benford (interpretado por Joseph Fiennes) tenta descobrir o que exatamente aconteceu e por que aconteceu. Ele cria um banco de dados interpretando os flash forwards das pessoas ao redor do mundo tentando resolver esse mistério, cruzando as visões de cada pessoa.
Existem pessoas que não viram nada, o que será que acontecerá com elas? Elas estarão dormindo ou estarão mortas?
